How We Can Help You
Physical Rehabilitation
Our Therapists work to improve independence in performing everyday tasks. We do this by addressing the underlying cause of impairments through therapeutic exercise and activities, as well as by teaching adaptive strategies to compensate for physical limitations.
Cognitive Rehabilitation
Cognition refers to a person’s ability to think and process information and includes aspects such as memory, attention and visuospatial skills, as well as executive functions such as planning and problem solving. Cognitive skills are important in all aspects of daily life but can be impacted by a range of healthcare conditions. Cognitive rehabilitation includes training specific skills and developing contextually appropriate compensatory strategies.
Paediatrics
We work with children impacted by various health conditions and help them to reach their full potential. Working closely with families, we aim to support age-appropriate development and participation in self-care and play. We also work with children in the NICU, children with medical complications, and provide early intervention services.
Hand Therapy
We use our hands in almost everything that we do on a day-to-day basis, making rehabilitation of hand conditions tremendously important for improving quality of life. Hand therapy can include a variety of techniques such as therapeutic exercise and activities, custom made splints and adaptive equipment to improve function. We treat orthopaedic, neurological, and chronic hand conditions.
Oncology & Palliative Care
The aim of Occupational Therapy that is focused on palliative care, is to support living in the face of death. This is accomplished by using a person-centred compassionate approach to understand what matters to the patient and their family. Our approach to support oncology patients is to enable them to participate in both essential and valued activities, promote dignity and improve their everyday quality of life.
Wheelchair Seating
Occupational Therapists believe that having the appropriate postural support while seated enables optimal functional participation and independence. A common misperception is that wheelchairs come in a “one size fits all”. However, we understand that everyone’s body shape and postural support needs are different. Therefore, we are equipped to complete holistic wheelchair assessments and to recommend and order the appropriate wheelchair, thereby enabling clients to be safely independent at home and within their broader communities.
Assistive Devices and Housing Adaptations
The Occupational Therapists at Greenhough OT can assess and make recommendations within your home and work environments to enable functional participation. Basic assistive devices can be recommended and purchased as needed. Sometimes larger home adaptations are required to improve the ease, accessibility and safety of completing everyday tasks. We can assist you to reclaim these areas of your life.
Return to Life Roles
As Occupational Therapists we believe that people find meaning in “doing’’. If an accident, illness or injury prevents you from engaging in the activities and life roles that give your life meaning, this is where Occupational Therapy can assist you to recover that sense of purpose.
Caregiver Training
At Greenhough OT, we provide individualised caregiver training to carers. This is aimed at upskilling them and providing guidance as to how best to care for their patients/clients. For example, how to best care for someone with impairments related to old age, disability or injury. This is not a formally accredited training programme, rather we offer customised hands-on training to meet the individual needs of each client. This we have found results in tailored care which better enhances an individual’s quality of life and well-being.
Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) Assessments
Our holistic approach to assessment of the person, environment and occupation enables us to evaluate an individual’s capacity to perform work activities. These in-depth assessments are often requested by insurance companies, doctors, employers and companies to determine a person’s ability to physically and cognitively perform their job requirements. These assessment findings can guide vocational rehabilitation and the return to work process.
